About

Space for Dance Art

Space for Dance Art is a cultural hub in Amsterdam Nieuw-West for dance professionals and enthusiasts, where prominent artists present performances and showcases.

It is also the home of ICK Dans Amsterdam, serving as a vibrant public space for contemporary dance in the city. Our doors are open to everybody: you can enjoy performances, dance previews, festivals, and themed events. You can also gain dance knowledge in our media library or attend lectures, debates, and symposia. In addition, we offer dance classes and workshops at various levels and in diverse styles.

Would you like to collaborate with Space for Dance Art or pay us a visit? You are very welcome to do so by sending an email to our programme maker and creative producer, Francesco Cutillo; FrancescoCutillo@ickamsterdam.nl

ICK Dans Amsterdam

ICK Dans Amsterdam, the contemporary dance company of Amsterdam, is based in Space for Dance Art. In SfDA, ICK creates performances and rehearses its extensive repertoire.

In 2009, Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten combined their artistic, production and research activities in ICK Dans Amsterdam, the International Choreographic Arts Centre Amsterdam, a platform for contemporary dance. Under their vision, we create international productions, support young makers and to realize education and research in dance.

Since 2021, ICK has been located in Space for Dance Art, a place where performances, research, education, debates, workshops and symposia come together. Space for Dance Art functions as a dynamic centre where dance engages in dialogue with other disciplines, technology and social issues. ICK develops projects in collaboration with partners at home and abroad, most recently with the Philharmonie de Paris and the Opera de Tunis.

ICK is internationally renowned for its innovative approach to dance, which recognises the body as a carrier of stories, meanings and physical intelligence. The company is constantly searching for new forms of physical presence and audience engagement, as well as ways to integrate technology into choreography. As well as creating and presenting performances, ICK focuses on talent development, participation projects and knowledge sharing, with the aim of reaching a broad and diverse audience.
